Questions about the program

How much is the bursary?

$2,000.

Is the bursary paid to me?

No, the bursary is paid directly to the educational institution where you will take your course.

Is this a new program?

Yes. Destination Clic for 14- and 15-year-olds was created to offer participants an unforgettable experience in the company of other young people from Canada’s various francophone communities.

What is the policy about using the target language?

Each educational institution participating in Destination Clic has a policy about using the target language. These CMEC-approved policies are provided in writing to students prior to the start of the course. Students who fail to comply with these rules may be asked to leave.

Why learn French if I’m francophone?

The program is for francophones whose permanent residence is outside of Quebec, who want to improve their fluency in French at a francophone institution and meet other Canadian francophones.

Questions about the courses

Can I arrive before or after the course start date?

No, you must arrive on the date set by the educational institution.

Can I go visit relatives on evenings and weekends?

No, because there are organized activities to participate in on evenings and weekends.

Do I have to bring course materials?

No, all materials are supplied by the educational institution.

Do I have to bring special equipment or materials to participate in extracurricular activities?

Not unless it is specified by the educational institution.

How long are the courses?

Three weeks.

How many hours do I spend in class every day?

Participants spend three hours every morning in the classroom, for a total of 45 hours of classroom instruction for the duration of the course. The rest of the time is dedicated to cultural and athletic activities.

Where and when do I take the language test?

You usually take the test when you arrive in the host educational institution.

Will the other students in my course have the same level of proficiency in French?

Yes. You will take a language test before the course starts so that you can be assigned to a group that has the same proficiency level.

Will there be homework?

The educational institution will inform you all the academic activities involved prior to the course.

Questions about the activities

What types of activities and workshops are offered?

All kinds of activities and workshops could be offered, for example:

  • Visit to Parc de l’Île Saint-Quentin
  • Trip to Quebec City
  • Trip to Montreal
  • Visit the technological marvels of the Cité de l’énergie in Shawinigan
  • Movie outing
  • Meal in a sugar shack
  • River excursion in a dragon boat or Rabaska canoe
  • Hike in Parc de la Mauricie
  • Visit the Forges du St-Maurice, Canada’s oldest steel plant, dating back to the 18th century
  • Visit the Centre de la Biodiversité in Bécancour

Questions about eligibility

Can I apply if I’m turning 14 after the course starts?

No, you must meet the minimum-age requirement prior to the start of the course, unless otherwise indicated by the educational institution.

Can I be exempted from some of the eligibility requirements?

No, you must meet all the eligibility requirements by the time the course begins.

Can I still get a bursary if I’m not good in French?

Yes, Destination Clic is not a merit-based program.

Who is eligible to apply?

You are eligible to apply for the program if you are 14 or 15 years old; are a Canadian citizen or have permanent-resident status; were enrolled in school full time for at least one term in the current school year; have French as your first language; and have your permanent residence outside of Quebec.

Questions about applying, the application form, and supporting documents

Can I fax a photocopy of my proof of citizenship if I forget to enclose it with my application?

Yes. Click on the link to open the “Where to send your application?,” which has the fax number for the coordinator in your home province or territory.

Can I fax or e-mail my application?

No. Faxed or e-mailed applications are not accepted.

Do you accept application forms postmarked after the March 15 deadline?

No. However, the application deadline may be extended.

I didn’t receive my tax slip. What do I do?

Your tax slip is issued by the educational institution where you took the course. Contact the educational institution directly.

What documents are accepted as proof of citizenship?

A photocopy of your passport, birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or civil-status registration.

Where at my high school can I get an application form?

Ask your guidance counsellor or French teacher. You can also click on the application form.

Questions about the draw

How and when are applicants selected?

The names of successful applicants are randomly drawn by computer, at the end of March.

If my name is drawn, can I get the names of other students who’ll be travelling from the same region?

For privacy reasons, we can’t release any information about applicants.

When do I find out whether my application has been accepted?

You’ll receive a letter in early April.

Why is there a waiting list?

To fill the places of participants who withdraw from the program

How can I get more information about the educational institutions?

Check their Web site or send them an e-mail.

How can I let the educational institution know about my special needs?

If you have a disability, require medical care, etc., inform your host institution as soon as you receive the letter informing you of the status of your application.

Why were the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and the Université de Moncton chosen to offer Destination Clic for 14- and 15-year-olds?

These educational institutions were chosen for their high-quality programs and also because they are representative of Canada’s francophone communities.

Questions about arrival

Will there be someone to pick me up and drop me off at the airport or train or bus station?

Yes. Bilingual chaperones will be assigned to pick you up and drop you off at the airport or train or bus station, as needed.

Questions about accommodation

Do boys and girls sleep in separate rooms?

Yes, boys and girls stay on different floors.

What type of accommodation will I stay in during the course?

Participants will stay in residence. For more information about accommodations, check the institution’s Web site.

Questions about costs

Are all the activities free, or do I have to pay for some of them?

Educational institutions offer free activities included in the program. There may be a cost for additional activities. Your institution will inform you of any such costs.

Do I have to pay for my travel?

Yes, but you will receive an allowance at the end of the course to cover part of the cost of travel between your home province or territory and the province where the course takes place, based on the distance between your home and the host institution.

Do I have to send in the registration fee along with my application form?

No. The fee is payable once your host institution contacts you.

Is the registration fee refundable?

No.

What do I have to pay to participate in Destination Clic?

A $150 registration fee, and possibly a deposit, to your host institution.

Questions about safety

Can I go out at night?

Participants are required to comply with the institution’s rules, which will be provided to the parents of participants.

What are the safety rules?

The institution will provide your parents with the safety rules, in writing, prior to the start of the course.
